Terms of Service

Welcome to MapFiend (mapfiend.com), a browser game operated by New Saga Media LLC, better known as A Little Bit Human ("we", "us"). By playing MapFiend you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. The game
MapFiend is a free browser game about guessing countries from their shapes. You can play without an account. An account is optional and adds saved progress across devices, leaderboards, achievements, and related features. We are always improving the game, so features can change, be added, or be removed.
2. Accounts
To create an account you need a working email address. Signing in uses one time codes sent to that address, so keep access to your inbox secure and do not share codes with anyone. You are responsible for what happens through your account. One account per person, please. If you lose access to your email, contact us and we will do our best to help.
3. Fair play
The game is only fun if the boards are honest. You agree not to use bots, scripts, or automation to play or submit scores, not to exploit bugs to gain scores, currency, or achievements, and not to tamper with requests to our servers. We validate submitted scores server side and reject ones that do not add up. If we believe an account or a score breaks these rules we may remove scores, reverse gains, or restrict or close the account.
4. Names and player content
Your player name and optional bio must not be offensive, misleading, or impersonate someone else. We filter obvious cases automatically and may change or remove names or bios that slip through. Leaderboard names are public, so choose something you are happy to see on a public board.
5. Leaderboards
Submitting a score is optional. If you submit one, your display name, score, avatar, and rank appear publicly. We may remove entries that break these terms or that we believe are invalid.
6. Scores and virtual items
XP, levels, doubloons, Marks, avatars, and similar items are game features. They have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred between accounts. We may rebalance the game over time, and that can include recalculating existing scores and standings so that all players are ranked on the same scale, adjusting how items are earned, or correcting values affected by bugs. If we later introduce ways to spend or acquire items in the game, these terms apply to those items too unless we say otherwise.
7. Our content
The game, its code, design, characters (including the MapFiend mascot and its expressions), artwork, and text belong to New Saga Media LLC or our licensors. We give you a personal, non commercial license to play the game in your browser. Sharing your result cards and links is encouraged; that is what they are for. Map boundary data comes from Natural Earth and OpenStreetMap contributors.
8. Availability
We aim to keep MapFiend up and running, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We may suspend or modify the game, in whole or in part, at any time, including for maintenance and updates.
9. Disclaimers and liability
MapFiend is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, New Saga Media LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the game, and our total liability for any claim is limited to 50 USD. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing in them reduces consumer rights you hold under the mandatory law of the country where you live.
10. Ending things
You can stop playing at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account (see the Privacy Policy for how). We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we will update them here and adjust the effective date. For meaningful changes we will let account holders know. Continuing to play after a change means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to conflict of law rules, and subject to any mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence.
