Conquest: how many countries can you name?

The hard mode. Every country arrives as a bare outline, and you type its name with no options, no region and a clock running on every answer. Three lives stand between you and the full map of 187.

HOW IT WORKS

How Conquest works

  1. A country appears, aloneOne outline, no region around it, no name, no choices offered.
  2. You type the answerSpell out the country's name yourself while the clock runs. Every correct answer takes the country.
  3. Mistakes cost a lifeThree lives, and the clock makes them go faster than you expect.
  4. Your mantle climbsThe more countries you take in a run, the higher your conqueror title rises through history's conquerors.

THE MECHANICS

How Conquest is scored

The scoring engine is the same one the whole game runs on: every country has a base score set by how hard it is to place, speed adds a bonus, and a long unbroken streak multiplies your points. Conquest simply removes every crutch. No options to lean on, no region to reason from, and a clock on each answer, which is why the same 187 countries feel like a different game here. Points decide your rank on the board. Countries taken decide your mantle.

Three things that help

Warm up where the help isWorld Tour teaches the shapes, and Quick Play on Hard uses the same typed input as Conquest. Both are training grounds for this.
Learn the spellings, not just the shapesRecognising Kyrgyzstan and typing it under a clock are two different skills. The second one is where runs die.
Trust your first instinctWith a clock on every answer, a confident early answer beats a perfect late one. Hesitation costs more than the occasional miss.

THE BOARD

Where you land

Every Conquest run is scored and ranked. Each month is its own board, your best run of the month holds your place, and the all-time board remembers the greatest campaigns. Your entry carries the streak that earned your mantle, so the board shows not just your points but how deep into the map you got.

FAQ

Conquest questions

What is Conquest?

Conquest is MapFiend's hardest mode. You type every country's name from its outline alone, with no options, no surrounding region and a clock on each answer. Three lives, all 187 countries in the pool.

What are conqueror titles?

Your mantle. The more countries you take in a single run, the higher your title climbs through history's conquerors. The mantle is set by countries taken; your leaderboard rank is still decided by points.

Do I have to spell every country myself?

Yes. There are no options to choose from, which is the entire point. If you can take a country in Conquest, you did not guess it, you knew it.

Can anyone name all 187 countries?

The pool is all 187, so the ceiling exists. Whether anyone reaches it is what the mantles are for.

How is Conquest different from a name-all-the-countries quiz?

List quizzes hand you a blank map and a box. Conquest serves you one outline at a time with no map around it, scores each answer for difficulty and speed, and takes a life when you are wrong. It tests the same knowledge with much less mercy.

Is it free?

Yes. Conquest is free to play in your browser, phone or desktop, nothing to install.
