Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 22, 2026

MapFiend (mapfiend.com) is a browser game made by New Saga Media LLC, better known as A Little Bit Human ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information we handle when you play, and what your choices are.

Questions or requests: privacy@alittlebithuman.com

The short version

You can play MapFiend without creating an account. If you sign up, we store your email address and your game progress. Analytics only run if you say yes to them. We send marketing email only if you subscribe to it. We do not sell your personal data and we do not run advertising networks on the site.

What we collect

Playing without an account

When you first play, we create an anonymous player record with a random ID so your progress can be saved. Tied to that record we store gameplay data: games played per mode, right and wrong answers, which countries you have seen and answered, streaks, best scores, XP and level, doubloons, achievements (Marks), and your equipped avatar. This data identifies a player record, not a named person.

Your browser also stores a small amount of data locally on your device: your session, your saved leaderboard name, your Daily results, your cookie choice, and a short memory of recently served countries so the game can vary what it shows you.

Creating an account

If you create an account we additionally store your email address, your chosen player name, and an optional bio. Signing in works with one time codes sent to your email; we do not store passwords. When you sign in on a new device, the progress from that device's anonymous record is merged into your account.

Leaderboards

When you submit a score we store your chosen display name, the score, and the round data behind it (which countries came up, right or wrong, and how long each answer took). We use the round data on our servers to check that submitted scores are real. Your display name, score, avatar, and rank are shown publicly on the boards.

To limit abuse we also store a salted hash of your IP address with rate limiting data. The raw IP address is not stored with your scores.

Analytics (only with your consent)

If you accept analytics in the cookie banner, we use PostHog to understand how the game is played: things like games started and finished, shares, and leaderboard submissions. If you decline, analytics do not run. You can change your choice at any time via the Cookie Settings link in the footer.

Email updates (only if you subscribe)

If you join the mailing list we store your email address with Omnisend and use it to send you news about the game. This is separate from login code emails. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link.

Services we rely on

We use a small set of service providers to run MapFiend, and they process data on our behalf: Supabase (database and sign in), Vercel (website hosting and server logs), Postmark (login code emails), Omnisend (marketing email, only if you subscribe), PostHog (analytics, only with your consent), and Cloudflare (network and DNS). Depending on the provider, data may be processed in the United States and in the European Union.

We do not sell personal data. We do not share it with advertisers. We disclose data only to the providers above, or if the law requires it.

Where GDPR style rules apply, we process data on these bases: performance of a contract (running the game, saving your progress, operating your account), legitimate interests (keeping the game fair and secure, validating scores, limiting abuse), and consent (analytics and marketing email, both of which you can withdraw at any time).

How long we keep data

Account data is kept while your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove the personal data tied to it. Anonymous player records that never become accounts may be cleaned up over time. Server logs and rate limiting data are kept only briefly.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to processing, or withdraw a consent you gave. Write to privacy@alittlebithuman.com and we will respond. If you are in the EEA or UK you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Children

MapFiend can be enjoyed by all ages, but we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or the higher age your country sets for consent). Accounts require an email address. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser storage for things the game needs to work: your session, your preferences, your Daily results, and your cookie choice. Analytics storage is only set after you accept it in the banner. We do not use third party advertising cookies.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update it here and adjust the effective date. For meaningful changes to how we handle account data we will let account holders know.
